Cat Power.

Currently listening to Billie Holiday
She's so great, her voice is so smooth.

I'm sitting in PLT, listening to the latest gossip on which team members from last year are pregnant, married and whatnot.

Honestly, it sickens me.
Getting married to a returned missionary in the temple the day after you graduate so you can buy the cookie cutter home and start having children, not to carry your name, but to be bred into the religion and make mommy and daddy proud by going on a mission and converting third world countries into mormons by telling them that Jesus will bring them food and miracles. Of course they're going to follow them. And the poor children don't even have the choice to believe what they want to believe. You're, what, SEVEN when you get baptized? Seven year olds do it so they can fit in, they don't know shit about God and Jesus.

I am so grateful that my parents never baptized me.
I am happy that I can find my own path in life.
I am happy that they gave me the choice to believe what I think is real and what isn't.

I can never thank them enough for that. That simple choice has made a world of difference in my life.
Maybe I'd be a better person. Maybe I don't know jack shit about mormons. But who I am right now makes me happy.

I love everything I have and I find joy in simplicity.

As of right now, I'm extremely frustrated at all the young beautiful women that marry for all the wrong reasons. They marry because they are scared this is the best they're going to get. Fucking look around. You're 19 fucking years old, you don't know anything about the world just yet. You're 20 years old. You're 18 years old. What the fuck could you possibly say about life. You're pregnant. And you're going to be stuck in utah making children, going to ward basketball night for the rest of your quaint life. You don't ever want to explore? You are telling me you have no desire to smoke a cigarette in Europe while drinking coffee? Bullshit.

Open your little heads.
I need to calm down.

  1. ah, don't take what i say as me attacking or judging or all that nonsense... i'm just thinking maybe i'll offer you a different perspective.
so basically, the general idea of life is to find joy, right? find what makes you function, be happy, etc. well, how is it possible for you to know whether or not a person is happy when they choose the "cookie cutter" lifestyle, marry a missionary, start a family... yet... who are you to judge the position they are in?

throughout your life you've been able to gain a perspective that isn't similar to the majority of the population here. what if you grew up in india? where those same things happen. people's lives are focused on getting married and carrying on the family name...

  2. what if you grew up in one of those third world countries where the only thing that really kept you living was a hope for a better life? hope that was hard to come by.

it's scientifically proven that those people who have something to hope for, to believe in... whether it be a god, or nature, or even just life itself... live longer than those who choose not to believe.

i find it brilliant that you are strongly opinionated. not a lot of people will say what they stand for openly. i applaud you. but maybe, instead of jumping ahead of yourself... find a perspective that enables you to love people even though they are so unaware of what else is out there for them. keep learning tabby. you're brilliant.
